5 Steps To Preventing Basement Flooding

After you have had your basement professionally waterproofed by our team here at Basement Solutions, you are excited about no longer having to worry about seeing inches of water in your basement. But to make sure all goes well in the years ahead and that additional problems don’t develop with your foundation and basement, there are several steps you should take along the way. As to which ones are best, here are five we at Basement Solutions always recommend to our customers.

Extend Your Downspouts

Here at Basement Solutions, we find having customers extend their downspouts is perhaps the single most important thing to do to prevent basement flooding. By using a gutter hose and positioning it so that the water will run away from your home, we can guarantee you’ll have peace of mind and a dry basement.

Clean Your Gutters

After you have had basement waterproofing in Ardmore, PA from us here at Basement Solutions, always remember to clean out your gutters each spring and fall. If you don’t, clogged gutters will have water pouring over them onto your foundation, setting the stage for new problems.

Use Window-Well Covers

When we at Basement Solutions waterproof a basement, we highly recommend our customers use window-well covers at their basement windows. In doing so, this will protect your home’s window-well drains from getting clogged, which prevents leaks and cracks from forming from water pressure.

Perform Proper Landscaping

If you’ve had problems with basement flooding, always take a look at your yard. If you notice it tends to slope toward your foundation, have it graded to do the opposite. Also, if you have flower beds around your foundation, use heavy mulch that will help absorb much of the water when it rains.

Patch Foundation Cracks

As you go around examining your foundation, you’ll likely notice a few cracks here and there, especially if your basement has flooded in the past. When you do see cracks, we suggest patching these cracks by using an epoxy injection kit, which is easy to use and can be purchased at a hardware store.

Now that you know the various steps you can take to protect your basement after it has been professionally waterproofed, spend some time patching cracks, installing window-well covers, and extending downspouts. Should you have questions about these or other issues associated with basement waterproofing, don’t hesitate to contact us here at Basement Solutions.

Since having a troublesome wet basement for more years than I care to count, I hired Basement Solutions 911 of Posttstown, PA to fix the problem. Having searched the internet thoroughly to formulate a competent bidders list of three, I tossed the high bid as non-competetive and compared quotes submitted by the remaining two (2) companies who were only $500.00 apart. This told me that both bids were submitted by seasoned professionals that know how to bid jobs. During the process, I was fortunate to have been able to speak to the owner, who I found to be nothing short of delightful in my experience. As a former Subcontract Administrator for The Boeing Company, I learned to spot…
